Dear GTW Sisters,

Dear GTW Sisters,

We've just experienced one of the most marvelous summers in Nevada County history.  Up to the point of this writing, there was only one bad air day for the entire season. The river is still running high and our growers' markets are overflowing with organic produce.  We have so much for which to be grateful.

One way to enjoy our fabulous environment is to join the Walking Circle.  The next walk is on  Sunday, Sept. 18.  See below for more details.

Our Human Trafficking event, co-sponsored with UNA: Focus on Women, was offered to an overflow crowd.  One of the things Chief Sensley stressed was that it is up to us create the awareness and outrage about what is happening.  A copy of the informational flyer he distributed is available. ClickHuman Trafficking Indicators for a two-page flyer. (Once open, you will need to click the blue arrow above the header to view page 2.) Please share it as you feel appropriate.

Also see below information on the Crisis Counselor Certification Training being offered by Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Coalition (DVSAC).

Gather the Women of Nevada County is a part of a global movement to empower women.  Make sure to read Nancy Naumann's notes below on her participation in the annual gathering for the GTW Global Matrix.  She is the Regional Coordinator for this area and our own Angie Lux is the Treasurer.

May our coming Fall be as fabulous as our Summer.

Blessings,

Judith Hurley Prosser

In my leadership, I will be drawing on my training and experience in both Psychosynthesis and Focusing, and on my own personal journey, and I will be encouraging participants to share their knowledge and experience, along their path.  Our pooled experience, can help one another.  Come, join us!

GATHER THE WOMEN
GLOBAL MATRIX CONFERENCE:

Women Lighting the World

By Nancy Naumann

Having just returned from Racine, Wisconsin, I am fully restored and filled with, yes, LIGHT!  Angie Lux and myself joined 23 women from the four directions who gathered for three days at the 145 year old DeKoven Center.  We sang, danced, circle talked, processed, connected, collaborated and were initiated as bearers of Light.

IMAGINE:  We brought our containers of blessed water from the Mississippi River, the Yuba River, New Mexico, Minnesota, South Dakota, Arizona, Florida, Alaska, Wisconsin, Texas and Ontario, Canada.  Together we combined our waters to create the Water Blessing for Lake Michigan, which contains 1/3 of the United States' fresh water. We each departed with our water containers filled to take this ceremony to our communities.  A future date will be announced for next year's gathering, 2012, in Ontario, Canada!

CIRCLE UPDATES

CIRCLE CONTRIBUTIONS

Above it was noted that there is a request for $5.00 to be contributed to GTW when attending a circle. The purpose of that is to help with funding for the ongoing outreach of Gather the Women of Nevada County, including films, presentations, and the March 8th event.

Many of you are attending more than one circle. Some circles meet more frequently than others. Our request is just that each person give as she is able to joyfully contribute without creating a hardship for herself. No one will ever be denied participation in a Gather the Women event because of lack of funds.

UNA Women's Circle

Welcome!  Please join us.  UNA: Focus on Women meets every month on the first Wednesday of the month at BriarPatch Co-op Community Room from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Meetings alternate between all-women, and all-gender.

On August 3, Police Chief Nicholas Sensley, and international expert on human trafficking, was received by an over-flow crowd of 125 people.  His talk was very informative and everyone should have the information he passed out.  The event was put on by United Nations Association's Golden Empire Chapter and Gather the Women.

On Sept. 7th we'll have two speakers and a discussion at Briarpatch.  Dee Hedenland, who has five children, 15 grandchildren and five great grandchildren, will speak about her volunteer experiences.  Dee was with CDF for 10 years, and on the Fire Safe Council for 5 years.  She is an award winning artist who was awarded first place and Best of Show at the Nevada County Fair, and 2nd Place at the California State Fair. She graduated from Sierra College with Honors in 2000.   Dee has been a volunteer for the Grass Valley Police Department for one year.  Our second speaker will be Julie Zuckerman who is a volunteer with Livingwell Medical Clinic.  She is interested in helping young girls make life affirming choices regarding pregnancy.  We have had a speaker from Citizens for Choice, and this will be an interesting interaction.

Ours is a "think tank" in which we bring our passions and interests to create a community of mutual respect and gender equity.  It is about listening, learning and appreciating each other's different perspectives on issues that we all feel are impacting our lives.  We seek connection that will bridge political, religious, psychological, and social differences, and create a bond of unity in inspiration and action.  We encourage dialogue not debate.
